Highland tea with a strong aroma from the Pearl in the Indian Ocean.
In the colonial period, this island was known as Ceylon, and this name is still used for tea today. Ceylon tea is of particularly fine quality, fragrant and full of flavour.
Sri Lanka is the third largest producer (after India and China) and a relatively new entrant; tea has only been grown for less than a hundred years. The three most famous tea regions are Dimbula, Uva and Nuwara Eliya. Most tea gardens are elevated, and the warm, wet climate allows the tea bushes to bud every 7 to 8 days. The tea is usually qualified by height: the higher the better.
